Welcome to Sakeenah ("the app," "we," "us," or "our"). Sakeenah is an Islamic journaling and reflection application, developed and maintained by an independent solo developer based in Manitoba, Canada.

By downloading, accessing, or using Sakeenah, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Not a Substitute for Professional Help

Sakeenah is designed for personal journaling, goal tracking, and reflection. It is not a medical, clinical, or therapeutic service, and is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment, therapy, or medical advice. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or medical emergency, please stop using the app and contact a qualified professional or emergency services in your area.

2. Eligibility

Sakeenah's core journaling features, used without signing in, are open to users of any age - your journal content and account data never leave your device in this mode. (The app's billing provider, RevenueCat, may be contacted in the background to support subscriptions, as described in our Privacy Policy.) If you choose to sign in with Google to enable cloud backup, signed-in mode is not intended for children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live (18 in Manitoba and most Canadian provinces), please use Sakeenah's signed-in features with a parent or guardian's involvement.

3. Regional Availability

Sakeenah is not offered in, and is not directed at individuals located in, the following countries and regions: the European Economic Area (all EU member states, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Israel, as described in our Privacy Policy. In all other regions, availability depends on Google Play and applicable local law. If you are located in an excluded region, please do not download or use the app. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals in those regions, and we may restrict access if we learn a user is located in one. If you believe we hold your data in error, contact support.sakeenah@gmail.com and we'll delete it.

4. Your Data and Account Responsibilities

Guest Mode: all your journal entries and data are stored locally on your device only. You are solely responsible for this data - if you lose your device, uninstall the app, or experience a hardware failure, your data is permanently lost and cannot be recovered.

Signed-In Mode: your data is also backed up to the cloud, as described in our Privacy Policy. You're responsible for the security of your Google account, and for your optional in-app Privacy Lock PIN or recovery code. Because we only ever store a salted hash of your PIN and recovery code - never the actual value - if you lose both, we cannot recover or reset them for you.

You can delete your account and data at any time, either from within the app or via our Account Deletion page. Requests made outside the app are processed within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.

5. Intellectual Property

Our Property: we own the Sakeenah app itself - its code, design, layout, branding, and functionality - protected by Canadian and international copyright and intellectual property law. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the app.

Your Property: you retain full ownership of the journal entries, goals, and notes you create ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership over Your Content, and we do not monitor, endorse, or take responsibility for anything you write.

6. Religious Content

Sakeenah surfaces Quran verses, duas, hadith, and names of Allah as part of its journaling and reflection features. Verse matching is performed by an automated on-device model based on the text you write - it is not a scholarly, theological, or religious determination, and should not be treated as religious guidance, a fatwa, or a substitute for consulting a qualified Islamic scholar. Translations and source texts are drawn from their respective third-party translators and sources, credited where shown within the app; Sakeenah does not claim authorship or ownership over the underlying religious texts themselves.

The matching engine is actively refined over time. If a verse doesn't feel like a fit for what you wrote, you can flag it directly from the verse screen - this helps improve future matches and is genuinely appreciated.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or malicious purpose
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disrupt the Service
  • Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to access the app's backend or Firebase database
  • Attempt to bypass the app's security features, or access data belonging to other users

We may suspend or terminate your access to Sakeenah, without notice, if we determine you've violated these Terms or abused the app's infrastructure.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties ("As-Is" Clause)

SAKEENAH IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, BUG-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE FROM ERRORS, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST OR CORRUPTED.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SAKEENAH OR ITS DEVELOPER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES - INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, OR HARDWARE MALFUNCTIONS - ARISING FROM YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU'VE PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR CAD $0 IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID US ANYTHING.

10. Subscriptions, Free Trials, and Payments

Sakeenah offers an optional paid upgrade, Sakeenah Plus, available as a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription.

  • Billing: All payments, renewals, and billing cycles are handled securely and exclusively through Google Play Billing. We use a third-party service called RevenueCat to validate those purchase receipts and manage your subscription access across devices. By purchasing a subscription, you agree to Google Play's terms of service.
  • Free Trials: New subscribers to the annual plan may be offered a 14-day free trial (exact duration may change and will always be clearly shown before you subscribe). The monthly plan does not currently include a free trial. You will not be charged during the trial period, and you must cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. As a courtesy, we may send an in-app reminder before your trial ends; this is provided on a best-effort basis and doesn't replace your own responsibility to cancel in time if you don't wish to continue.
  • Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours prior to the renewal date. You can manage, update, or cancel your subscriptions at any time directly through your Google Play Account Settings -> Subscriptions.
  • Refunds: Refund requests are generally handled through Google Play's refund policy. If you run into an issue, you're also welcome to reach out to us directly at support.sakeenah@gmail.com and we'll do what we can to help.

11. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be resolved in the courts of Manitoba, and you agree to that jurisdiction. (This applies regardless of where you're using the Service from - see Section 3 on Regional Availability for where the Service is offered.)

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the app evolves. If we make a material change, we'll notify you inside the app in addition to updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Severability

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in full effect.
